Using Third Party Payment Services

At checkout, you may choose to pay with a third-party service** such as PayPal, Shop Pay, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay.

These providers are safe, convenient, and give you options like faster checkout or paying in installments. Because they handle part of the billing and refund process themselves, you may notice some differences compared to paying directly with a credit or debit card.

**Note: Payment service availability depends on your storefront and location. Not all services mentioned are offered in every region.

Helpful Things to Keep in Mind:

Preauthorizations or pending charges

  • Many services place a temporary hold when you attempt to check out.
  • If the order isn’t completed, these holds usually disappear automatically within a few business days.

Installment payments

  • Providers like Shop Pay Installments, Klarna, or PayPal Pay Later may split your order into scheduled payments.
  • These charges may not match the exact timing of your order or return, since they follow the provider’s billing cycles.

Refunds

  • All refunds issued by iFixit go directly back to the payment service you used.
  • Each service applies refunds according to its own rules sometimes reducing your outstanding balance, sometimes crediting your account, and sometimes sending funds back to your card or bank.
  • iFixit cannot redirect, cancel, or change how a third-party payment service applies your refund.

Autofill and Express Checkout

  • Many payment services, such as PayPal Express, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, store your payment and address details for faster checkout.
  • These services may pre-fill your information automatically during checkout.
  • If your details are outdated or incorrect*, you’ll need to update them directly in the payment service’s settings (not on iFixit).
  • Because they communicate with your bank in advance, you may also see pre-authorization holds even if you don’t complete checkout.

⚠️ Accidentally used the wrong address?

If an autofill service (like Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay) inserted an old or incorrect address and it’s been less than 25 minutes since placing your order, you can learn how to cancel your order here.

  • Remove preauthorization holds or speed up pending charges.
  • Redirect a refund to a different card, bank, or account.
  • Adjust how a provider like Shop Pay, Klarna, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay applies your refund.
